Tech Hubs Boom while Oil Towns Bust

Metro GDP numbers were recently released. Here are a couple of highlights.

• Tech Dominates. San Jose is the fastest growing large metro in the country (for the third straight year. San Francisco, Raleigh, Austin and Seattle (all tech hubs) round out the top five.

• Oil Booms also Bust. In prior years, Houston was near the top of this list, and oil put it there. With lower oil prices, once hot metros like Houston, Oklahoma City have cooled. Even Dallas' growth has slowed from recent years although it still grew at a healthy 3 percent.
